A Gift Is Not Bought

                                          Oh soul that strives to enter in,
                                          It's Christ who paid the debt for sin;
                                          And freely gives life to all who believe.
                                          Repent, trust in Him and receive.

                                          Not by works, but by God's grace:
                                          He sent His Son to take our place.
                                          He overcame and was crucified;
                                          God saw of His travail and was satisfied.

                                          Eternal rewards are by labor of love,
                                          But eternal life is a gift from above.
                                          A gift everlasting. It will never depart.
                                          A new birth, a new creature, with God's love in the heart.

                                          So if you're working to enter, your labor's for naught.
                                          Know you not that A Gift Is Not Bought?
                                          Oh law of reason, and rules of thrift,
                                          How will you justify the purchase of a gift?
