The Sure Mercies Of David
 

                                     In the unique book called the Bible,
                                     That some accept as the true Word of God;
                                     And many misunderstand, laying them liable
                                     To a much altered path to be trod:

                                     In the expression, The Sure Mercies Of David,
                                     Is indispensability displayed.
                                     In this are the filthy made laved,
                                     Having entered a covenant God made.

                                     This covenant He made with His Firstborn,
                                     Made higher than the kings of the earth.
                                     To keep it unaltered, He has then sworn.
                                     And we enter it through a new birth.

                                     In confirming this mercy-covenant valid,
                                     By His Holiness, He swore it would stand fast.
                                     And so, as many of us as are laved,
                                     Are just as sure as He is to last.
